Saturday, February 16, 2008

I'm really excited about joining the challenge, and it is just that, a challenge since narrowing down the categories and deciding what to read has really been taxing but I have made up my list and have filled out my categories with as many books as I could think of. i still have a few categories that have open slots but I don't expect those to be empty for very long.

I will be posting my reviews on my blog at: Sandy's Reading Journal

MLOKnitting 888 Books
Sunday, February 25, 2007

In January I had surgery, I had a lot of time for lighter fiction. Also, our local comic book store had a 50% off sale so I got a ton of comic books - as did my husband - which I did get through while recuperating. So, I ended up adding a lot of those (some, very, very good) to the YA/Children's Lit group.

I downloaded all of John Fox Jr.'s books onto my Palm and am attempting to read them as ebooks. If I can get used to that, there will be even more places I can read unobtrusively!

I. Books by Virginian, John Fox, Jr.
1. A Cumberland Vendetta and Other Stories (1895)
2. Hell-fer-Sartain and Other Stories (1897)

4. A Mountain Europa (serialized 1892, published 1899)
5. Crittenden (1900)
6. The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come (1903)
7. A Knight of the Cumberland (1906)
8. The Trail of the Lonesome Pine (1908)

II. Non-Fiction - Science and Medicine (Including Bios)
1. Death by Black Hole
2. Stiff
3. The Story of Corn by Betty Fussell
4. Our Inner Ape
5. The Sociopath Next Door
6. The Great Influenza
7.
8.

III. Paranormal Stories (Including Paranormal Romance)
1. The Accidental Vampire
2. Howl at the Moon
3. Touch the Dark
4. Iron Kissed
5. Doppelganger
6. Dancing with Werewolves by Carol Wilson Davis
7. Sorcery and the Single Girl
8. Kitty and the Silver Bullet

IV. Non-Fiction & Fiction - Craft Related
1. Apron
2. The Zen of Knitting
3. Knitting in America
4. Knit, Knit
5. The Knitter's Book of Yarn
6.
7.
8.

V. General History (Anything)
1. Sex with Kings : 500 Years of Adultery, Power, Rivalry, and Revenge by Eleanor Herman

3. Secrets of the Serpent
4. Secrets of the Gnostics
5. The Siege of Mecca
6. The Great Hurrican : 1938
7. The Crusades
8. Adams vs. Jefferson

VI. Graphic Novels
1. Serenity
2. Usagi Yojimbo: The Brink of Life and Death
3. Buffy : The Vampire Slayer: The Long Way Home
4. Tales of the Vampires
5. Tales of the Slayers
6. SHAZAM! The Monster Society of Evil
7. Mystic Arcana
8.

VII. Young Adult / Children's Literature
1. The Subtle Knife
2. The Amber Spyglass
3. Jonathon Strange & Mr. Norris
4. Twilight
5. Diggers
6. Spellbinders: Signs & Wonders
7. Spider-Girl Vol. 1: Legacy
8. Astonishing X-Men: Emma Frost, Vol. 2 - Mind Games

IIX. Ancient History & Medieval History
1. The Persian Wars, Vol. 1
2. The March of the Ten Thousand
3. The Jewish War
4. The Late Roman Empire
5. The Reformation
6. The Enlightened Despots
7. The Renaissance
8. The Rise and Fall of Alexandria

As you can see, I am a bit of a history and fantasy nut. I do reserve the right to add and change if the books are too horrible to finish! And, I can't remember the names of some of the books in my TBR list that I've included as part of the challenge - but I will be updating with that soon.

Of course, I just combined the audiobooks with the regular books so I could knit and read at the same time.
